Saad is pursuing the Young Fellowship program at the United Nations and, following in his father’s footsteps, hopes to get involved in humanitarian work. He talks here about his international background.
After coming to Washington College in fall 2007, I became involved with many clubs around the campus, including the International Student Council. As an International Studies major from Pakistan, Washington College became a home away from home for me as it has provided me with everything I had needed and desired.
I was born in Pakistan and later at the change of the millennium my family decided to move to Azerbaijan due my father’s job entitlement. Living in Baku—translated as the “windy city” in Azeri—was an experience I would never forget in all my life. It was a definite culture shock but it only took a little while for us to find ourselves mixed with the locals on the streets. There I learnt Azeri with my neighborhood friends and played soccer at school.
