Favorite Sociology Course? Transnational & Organized Crime - I love learning about all of the different groups and the stealthy and intelligent ways in which they commit crimes. It was what inspired me for my thesis topic.
Why I Majored in Sociology? I took Introduction to Sociology just for a filler class and fell in love with it. I love all aspects of it. It also was the reason I chose my minor: Justice, Law, & Society.
Organized Crime & Social Networks
My research investigates the function of social networks in the context of organized crime in the U.S. I hypothesize that these criminals are increasingly working together through networks to both expand their activities and increase profits. Historical data are combined with data collected through interviews. Data support that organized crime groups have expanded a great deal, and much of this is due to the fact that they now work with one another.
