Mary Elizabeth Wilkes
While at Washington College, Mary Elizabeth Wilkes studied Sociology and Gender Studies and was an active member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. After graduating in 2007, she moved to New Orleans, LA where she continued her studies at the Tulane School of Social Work. She is currently the Psychosocial Coordinator for Belle Reve New Orleans, which provides housing for homeless adults and families in New Orleans.
My education at Washington College definitely laid the groundwork for my master’s degree and and the information I gathered while researching for my thesis (Stigma associated with HIV) has a direct impact in my day-to-day life as a social worker. When I interviewed for my position at Belle Reve, I mentioned the research that I did as an undergraduate and the lessons that I learned through that process and II think that had a major impact on why I was hired.
