Eboni Taylor

Class of 1997

Eboni Taylor was a standout on the first four varsity women’s basketball teams in the history of Washington College, setting standards for the College’s female hoopsters which have yet to be matched.

Eboni arrived on the Chestertown campus in the fall of 1993 after graduating from the Bullis School in Potomac, Md. Eboni’s challenge was this—to be a starter, a top scorer and a top rebounder for a fledgling varsity women’s basketball program. Eboni rose to that challenge and exceeded it.

For four years, Eboni was one of the team’s leading scorers and rebounders, averaging a double-double each of those seasons and finishing with an impressive 1,478 career points and a staggering 1,103 career rebounds—both of which records still stand.

In a 1993 game against Gallaudet, Eboni pulled down 24 rebounds, a feat which still stands as a school record and is tied for the Centennial Conference record. She still holds several other school records, including field goals in a game, points in a season, field goals in a season, free throws in a season, rebounds in a season, career scoring average, career rebounding average, career field goals and career free throws.

Eboni earned All-Centennial Conference recognition in all four of her years at Washington College—an achievement that has not been matched by any other Shorewoman. She gained honorable mention status twice and second team honors twice.

In the team’s first-ever varsity season, Eboni helped lead the Shorewomen to 11 wins. The following season, the Shorewomen earned a spot in the Centennial Conference playoffs, defeating Muhlenberg in a tie-breaker game to advance to the semifinals.

As an undergraduate, Eboni was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority and a peer advisor. She still resides in Chestertown and has worked with Crossroads Community Inc. as a residential specialist, rehab specialist and recovery team leader.

Washington College considers it an honor and privilege to induct Eboni D. Taylor into its Athletic Hall of Fame on this fourth day of October, 2008.
