David Slomkowski

Class of 1992

Hall Of Fame Citation

If Penn State can be referred to as “Linebacker U.” for the prowess of its football linebackers, than perhaps Washington College should be known as “Goalie College,” for its tradition of outstanding lacrosse netminders. Dave Slomkowski is a part of that outstanding tradition with his outstanding achievements during his three years between the pipes for the Shoremen.

Dave’s first year in goal was 1989 and he wasted no time in making his mark on the team. He made 182 saves that season against just 125 goals allowed for a save percentage of 59.3%. His play helped lead the Shoremen to the NCAA Division III semifinals and garnered him All-American third team honors.

In 1990, Dave posted a save percentage of 63.2%, making an impressive 265 saves against 154 goals allowed. That year, the Shoremen reached the NCAA Division III Championship game and Dave earned All-American first team honors. He was also presented with the Division III Ensign C. Markland Kelly, Jr. Award as the top goalie in Division III.

The 1991 season was Dave’s final campaign and he once again earned All-American honors, this time landing on the second team. He finished with 188 saves and 151 goals allowed for a save percentage of .554. His All-American award made him the first goalie in Washington College history to be named an All-American three times. He was also named his team’s Most Valuable Player and earned the College’s Senior Athletic Award.

Dave excelled against elite competition. In five career NCAA Division III Tournament games, he totaled 98 saves and only 53 goals allowed for a save percentage of .649.

In addition to his exploits on the lacrosse field, Dave was also a member of Washington College’s last cross country team during the fall of 1989.

Dave is currently the president of Athletes Serving Athletes, a nonprofit organization that enables challenged athletes to experience the thrill of athletic competition.

Washington College considers it an honor and privilege to induct David R. Slomkowski into its Athletic Hall of Fame on this 30th day of October, 2010.
