The John Gardner Society
Sandy Hiortdahl is a novelist, a sometime-poet and an award-winning teacher. She earned a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at George Mason University, a Master of Arts in English at University of Maryland College Park, and a Ph.D. in English from The Catholic University of America, where she earned distinction for her dissertation “John Gardner’s Grendel: Reinventing Beowulf.” She has taught English and creative writing at Washington College, University of Delaware, West Chester University, Catholic University, and East Tennessee State University, where she was a post-doctoral teaching fellow.
