Joanie pioneered as the first blind student at Washington College since 1948.
After graduating from Washington College, Joanie studied for and received her Masters Degree in Social work (MSW) from Rutgers University. She married and had one son, Adrian, deceased. She divorced in 1983 and has been happily single since. Joanie has worked as a Telephone Counselor since 1992. Using her social work degree she has been able to help many people with their problems. She has worked in sales for technology for the blind as well. Joanie has always been active in the blind community, for a time, as President of the Friends of the Library for the Blind and Disabled in New Jersey, in which she is still active, and in book clubs. Joanie was an avid reader in college but now with all the newest technology she is an insatiable reader.
