John Ames is a Presbyterian minister who retired to Chestertown in 2005 after serving congregations in Bethesda, MD, Louisville, KY and East Hampton, NY. He is a graduate of the University of Mississippi (BA), Union Theological Seminary (BD) and Duke University (PhD). He also taught as an adjunct professor at Duke University Divinity School, Louisville Theological Seminary and Bellarmine College in Louisville.
In Chestertown, John is on the staff of the Presbyterian Church, part time. He is a member of the Chester River Chorale and served as President of the Board from 2010 to 2013. He currently serves as a member of Chestertown’s Historic District Commission and on the Board of the Samaritan Group. He has taught courses for WC-All in the areas of history and religion since 2008, and led trips to England and Scotland in 2013 and Central Europe this year.
