Ready to Commence!
CHESTERTOWN, MD—Washington College is gearing up for its 231st Commencement ceremony, to begin Saturday morning, May 17, at 10:30 on the Campus Lawn fronting Washington Avenue. In case of inclement weather, the event will move into the Johnson Fitness Center as a ticketed event.
This is the first year in recent memory that Commencement will be held on a Saturday rather than Sunday, a change made when Reunion Weekend was separated from graduation. The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature remarks from Jo Ann Jenkins, recently named CEO-elect of the influential advocacy organization AARP. Jenkins currently serves as the COO of AARP, which boasts nearly 38 million members in all 50 states. She will receive an honorary degree from Washington College.
A total of 339 degrees will be awarded during the ceremony.
The event will be streamed live at http://new.livestream.com/washcoll/commencement.

Weather permitting, the Class of 2014 celebration will include a fireworks display Friday evening. The fireworks, which will be launched from the College practice fields on Morgnec Road (Route 291), will begin at approximately 8:45 p.m.
