Representatives from Stanley Black & Decker, including three recent WC alumni, came to Washington College to educate students on career development and their business.

On Wednesday, January 29, representatives from Stanley Black & Decker (including WC alumni Mike Bonadies ‘13, Ryan Bankert ‘13, and Jeff Nutting ‘13) visited Washington College for a series of career development sessions. This event, Black & Decker’s Education Day, served as a means to prepare its attendees for the employment world, while spreading the word about employment at Stanley Black & Decker.

A general Meet and Greet was followed by Mock Interviews, which allowed students to market themselves to Stanley Black & Decker representatives, who then provided critiques and helpful tips for the future. Students and staff also joined the SB&D team for lunch and for a meeting with WC’s Enactus group, an on campus student group that uses free-market principles and business skills to empower individuals and organizations in the community.

After lunch, the SB&D Skills Workshop allowed students to assess and refine their respective strengths and create a plan for approaching various situations in an employment setting, such as      researching the job before the interview and, most importantly, finding jobs that resonate with each individual’s passions and interests. “When in doubt,” Stanley Black & Decker representatives mentioned during the workshop, “get help through Career Services and both professional and private networking sites.” After the Skills Workshop, representatives finished the day by visiting Professor Spilich’s psychology class.

Stanley Black & Decker will return Monday, February 17 to conduct “real” interviews of students to fill positions at SB&D upon graduation.
