Payroll and Holiday Schedule 2014-2015

November 15, 2013
In anticipation of the approaching new year, the Office of Human Resources in collaboration with the President’s Office and Senior Staff announce the payroll and holiday schedules for 2014-2015. Both schedules are located at: https://www.washcoll.edu/offices/human-resources/payroll.php

Please note the following changes to the Holiday Schedule:

  • Labor Day, Monday, September 1, 2014 will now be a work day. Traditionally this has been a paid holiday for staff and classes have remained in session. The College has decided to move the Labor Day holiday to Thanksgiving. All employees are expected to report to work unless they have scheduled a vacation day.
  • Thanksgiving Holiday has been extended to include the day before and the day after Thanksgiving. The College will be closed from Wednesday, November 26, 2014 through Friday, November 28, 2014.
  • Monday following Commencement: Commencement has moved to Saturday, May 17, 2014 and the College has moved this day to the Christmas and New Year’s Holiday. All employees are expected to report to work unless they have scheduled a vacation day.

  • Christmas and New Year’s Holiday now includes Christmas Eve and the day following New Year’s Day. The College will be closed Wednesday, December 24, 2014 through Friday, January 2, 2015.

The College considered a variety of factors in determining the 2014-2015 holiday schedule, including the school schedules for  Kent and Queen Anne’s counties, as well as and the internal needs of the College. The College reserves the right to revise both schedules, with ample notification to the employees.

Note: In accordance with College Policy, employees who take vacation, personal or sick leave during a scheduled holiday will not be permitted to “make up” the paid holiday on another day. The College recognizes some employees may wish to celebrate other religious holidays, and encourages observance of those holidays using vacation time. Arrangements to observe these holidays should be made with the department supervisor.

If you have any questions regarding either schedules, please contact the Office of Human Resources.
