Believing in Possibilities

July 15, 2013
Jim Lewis ’58 believes in possibilities. After a long career in consulting and human resources, Jim transformed his retirement into an inspirational career.  Jim believes that with proper preparation, you can love your work. With a belief in empowering young people to make thoughtful choices, Jim recently named WC as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy, helping the next generation to believe in possibilities too.

Jim, a former economics major at Washington College, spent much of his career post-graduation doing consulting work for Fortune 500 companies.   When it came time to retire, Jim teamed up with a colleague and founded Career Liftoff Interest Inventory, a career assessment tool and planning guide. Having worked in human resources, Jim and co-founder Gary Anderson continuously ran into people who seemed to have fallen into their careers.  Both men were motivated to help young people find out what they truly enjoy doing.  They generated a survey that focuses on their interests, rather than broader topics, to help the next generation find meaningful careers.

Recently, Jim was able to embrace his belief in empowering young people in a new way. Jim has supported The Washington Fund along with countless other projects at Washington College for over thirty years.  After conversations with a development officer at WC, Jim decided to name WC as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy.
