In those thirty years, more than 300 young women have graced the field with coaches on the sidelines, parents in tow, and friends and past players of the sport in the stands.
To commemorate this anniversary, the College is launching a campaign to endow the field hockey program. The team intends to raise $50,000 by the fall of 2014, and eventually grow the endowment to $460,000.
Current budgetary resources don’t allow for a full-time assistant coach, notes Head Coach Rachel Boyle, who calls on two part-time assistants to help with recruiting and coaching. Boyle is working with the College Advancement Office to build an endowment that will support a full-time assistant coaching position.
“We all recognize the impact of coaching on the experience of our players, on the success of the program, and our ability to recruit the great field hockey players of tomorrow,” she says. “It would be great to have the staff resources to provide more individualized attention for each player, and to recruit prospective students who can make contributions on the field and in the classroom.”
