First Year Programs & Orientation

Welcome to Washington College!

It was great to meet so many of you at Summer Advising in June. If you were not able to attend, please contact the Associate Provost’s Office (410-778-7206, jschultz2@washcoll.edu) for a phone or Skype advising appointment to discuss and register for your Fall 2015 courses.

Before your advising appointment, be sure to :

Take the Placement Exams

On WebAdvisor under “Miscellaneous Options.” ALL new students must take these exams. The foreign language placement exam begins with a questionnaire; answer the questions and it will indicate whether or not you need to take the exam. The mathematics placement exam has two parts. Read the directions carefully to determine whether you need to take the second part.

Complete the Financial Responsibility Form
on WebAdvisor under Financial Information.

You will not be allowed to register for Fall 2015 classes unless you have completed the Financial Responsibility Form, taken the math placement exam and either taken the foreign language placement exam or indicated on the survey why you qualify for not taking it.

Advising Appointment

To prepare for your phone/Skype advising appointment, please review First Year Academics, including

  • Suggestions for how to select courses and balance your course load
  • Explanations of the first year writing requirement and the general education and distribution requirements
  • A list of courses most appropriate for first year students

Make-up Summer Advising

If you did not attend Summer Advising in June, you must attend the make-up session on August 26 that will cover some of the information from the sessions given in June.

You will move in to your residence hall on the morning of August 26. The program begins at 11:15 and there are sessions that parents can attend also.
