During spring break, Eshan Patel ‘13 and Kathy Thornton ‘13 traveled with Dr. Mindy Reynolds and Dr. Martin Connaughton to present their summer research at the 51st Annual Society of Toxicology Meeting in San Franscisco, California. In the summer of 2011, Eshan and Dr. Reynolds experimented with the effects of co-exposure to nickel and cobalt on the cytotoxicity and oxidative stress on human lung epithelial cells. Eshan’s research and paper was published in Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology. Kathy Thornton ‘13 and Dr. Martin Connaughton experimented with the effects of Prozac on the startle response behavior in zebrafish. Both Eshan and Kathy were able to present their research in San Francisco thanks to funding from the Cater Society of Junior Fellows.
