On Friday, February 22, members of the Washington College History Society helped unpack several boxes of new books that are to be added to the Miller Library collection. The books were all submitted for consideration for the 2013 George Washington Book Prize and constitute the best and latest scholarship on the nation’s founding era.

When Washington College dedicated the J. A. Leo Lemay Library of Early Americana on Friday, April 29, it honored a distinguished historian whose diverse collection of books on American history and culture will now help inspire new generations of scholars’ work on the American founding era. This remarkable library of more than 1,500 books was amassed over a lifetime by distinguished scholar J.A. Leo Lemay, and recently donated to Washington College by his wife, Ann.Now housed at the college’s Patrick Henry Fellows’ Residence, the collection serves the rotating residents of the home, accomplished historians and writers completing residencies at Washington College under the auspices of the C.V. Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience.On a sunny April afternoon, more than 50 of Lemay’s colleagues, family, and friends, including his wife, Ann joined Washington College faculty at a celebratory reception at the Fellows’ Residence. -
Washington College rededicated the Clifton M. Miller Library at a Grand Opening, celebrating the $8 million makeover. -
Dr. Alan Taylor, 2012 Frederick Douglass Visiting Fellow at the C.V Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience, graduate advisor to Dr. Kenneth Miller, and townball extraordinaire, was challenged to an epic townball grudgematch by Dr. Miller. Dr. Taylor, from the University of California at Davis represented “Team West,” captained by Chuck Weisenberger ’12, while Dr. Miller proudly represented “Team East” (Go Chestertown!), captained by Andrew Martz ’12. Townball is a colonial version of baseball where students, faculty, and staff divide into teams and compete for the ultimate honor of being townball victor. Townball players meet every Friday afternoon at 3:30pm on the campus green, come out and join the battle for ultimate glory!
