Date: 7:00pm EDT March 22
These seven accomplished musicians will offer a special concert for us on period instruments on March 22, at 7 PM. The Peabody Consort will present a wide selection of music written in the era of the Renaissance. This music includes rare and wonderful pieces by John Dowland (The King of Denmark’s galliard), and selections by Thomas Morley, Tobias Hume, Guglielmo Ebreo da Pesaro, Vincenzo Capirola, Diego Ortiz, and Claudio Monteverdi.
The musicians include Julie Bosworth, soprano; Mark Cudek, cittern, doumbec, riq; Jeffrey Grabelle, treble & bass viols; Brian Kay, lute and oud; Jeremy Lyons, bandora and Baroque guitar; Daniel Moody, countertenor; and Aik Shin Tan, Renaissance flute and recorders
This is a wonderful to opportunity to hear rarely heard music on authentic and rarely heard period instruments. The Sephardic selections alone will be rare jewels. This traditional music of the Sephardim was written near the period in which they were expelled from Spain in 1492 by Ferdinand and Isabella. Imagine hearing these musicians recreate the music that kings and royalty heard and on the same period instruments as played in those same courts from that era!
But why imagine? Plan to be with us where we will hear these marvelous musicians and vocalists play for us and for each other as their instruments sing to us. In one evening we will be hearing music chosen from this wonderful era that may well have accompanied the plays of Shakespeare and amused royalty in their courts and in their banquet halls.
