It’s a Jungle Out There
For students interested in exploring native ecosystems and spotting rare wildlife, traveling to Ecuador offers a glimpse of paradise. It also hammers home the social and economic issues affecting its human inhabitants and the challenges this developing country faces as it endeavors to conserve its natural resources.
Offered in conjunction with the Universidad San Francisco de Quito, and led by Professor Leslie Sherman, Chair of the Environmental Science and Studies Department, the course investigates many of the world’s most distinctive species of plants and animals that inhabit the richly diverse ecosystems of Ecuador.
Ports of call included the Andes mountains (including the capital city of Quito), the Amazon rain forest, and the Galapagos islands.
