Washington College's Department of Sociology and Anthropology was notified on April 8, 2008 that it received a grant award of $100,000 under the Maryland Crime Mapping and Analysis Program, a part of the State of Marylands Governors Office of Crime Control and Prevention. The year long project will produce a broad array of maps utilizing data from state and local police and criminal justice agencies and will aid officials in developing a long range strategy for state-wide analysis and mapping.
On September 14, 2008, MD, VA, and DC signed an historic agreement to share crime data across state lines. Washington College students and staff prepared the maps for the meeting. The video shows Mayor Fenty of DC, Governor Kaine of Virginia and Governor O'Malley reviewing the WC produced maps.
