Fieldwork Timeline

The following timeline refers to application to (and completion of) the 100-day internship portion of the Secondary Teacher Certification Program.

  • Secondary Certification Fieldwork Timeline

    Junior Year

    Fall Semester
    • Complete Application File, including recommendation, statement of interest, and additional documents (see Entry Requirements)
    • Pass ETS Praxis I national exams (if applicable)
    • Interview with Education Department Faculty
    • Enter program fully or provisionally
    Spring Semester

    The 100-day teaching internship begins this semester with EDU 404.  As part of this course, students

    • Begin assignment in PDS school (Goal: 20 days)
    • Keep a reflective journal and complete related assignments
    • Attend supplmentary evening seminars with cohort
    Summer
    • Complete sssigned readings and related projects

    Senior Year

    Fall Semester


    This semester is the “Ed Block,” which follows a non-traditional schedule, balancing full days on campus for class and full days at the PDS site for the teaching internship. Activities include the following:

    • Return to campus early for participation in school orientation activities at PDS sites 
    • Take “Education Block” classes on campus (full days; calendar provided each August)
    • Participate in Teaching Academy teaching simulations
    • Experience place-based learning activities and simulations
    • Complete full-time teaching internship at PDS
    • Participate in inservice days on campus, including development of professional and digital portfolios
    • Present portfolio and action research to PDS faculty, staff, and administrators 
    Spring Semester
    • Take of ETS national Praxis II exams for content area
    • Present portfolio and / or action research at Washington College
