Trap and Skeet

About the Club

It is the mission of the Trap and Skeet club to create and nurture a safe environment for shooters of all levels to excel in various competitive shooting sports.

We want to educate students about aspects of both firearm safety and usage in regard to sporting and hunting, especially by promoting safe shooting practices in the surrounding community and college youth. The Club also strives to educate members of Washington College and the surrounding community about firearm safety. We seek to provide and outlet away from the campus where students can partake safely in a fun and rewarding sport.

The Trap and Skeet Club, as any other organization, is run by an executive board.  All of the positions in the Board are held by current students.  To aid the Board, the club also has a Coach and Adviser, both of whom are NRA certified shotgun instructors and teach students how to shoot safely and accurately.

What we do…

The Club goes shooting as a group once a week (weather permitting).  Since we are fortunate enough to have both skeet and trap ranges a short distance from college campus, the club concentrates on both of these disciplines.  We alternate what discipline we will be shooting each week: one week will be trap, the next week skeet, then the next week trap, and so on.

One or two weekends of the semester (schedules and  budget permitting) the club likes to spend a weekend shooting Sporting Clays.  There are a few local ranges that offer Sporting Clays, and sometimes the club will join up with a club from another college for some team bonding time.

In the Spring of 2012, the Club joined up with the University of Maryland Trap and Skeet Club to co-host a collegiate competition shoot called The Battle of the Bay. This has now become an annual event that all of the members look forward to.  It offers a fun filled day shooting a range of disciplines, raffles, shooting games, and trophies!

In the Spring of 2013, the Club began hosting an annual Benefit Shoot.  This is a day where anybody on the eastern shore can spend a day shooting Sporting Clays, playing in various shooting games, enter in raffles, and even win a trophy! Starting in the Spring of 2014, this will also be the club’s annual Alumni Shoot. All WCTS Alumni are invited back to spend a day getting to know the current club members and catch up with old friends! For more information, click the “Alumni & Benefit Shoot” tab in the navigation to the left.

This may seem like a lot of huge fun events for one little club, but that is not all we do!  We participate in competitions and various shoots hosted by other colleges.  The club also participates in Washington College hosted activities such as Relay for Life.  We also run some other small, fun events like hosting dinners for our club members or having a Krispy Kreme fundraiser selling donuts across campus, and so much more!
