Philosophy Club

About the Club

Philosophy Club

The Philosophy Club meets informally during the school year and is open to students in all areas of study. Regular events include guest speakers, panel discussions, and film viewings. Every March the Club sponsors an annual student roundtable, featuring discussion of a classic text with Tutor Tom May of St. John’s College, Annapolis. Events are open to the College community and normally the public.

The Club welcomes all students with an interest in developing or participating in events related to philosophical themes. Contact Prof. Kevin Brien for regular mailings.

Meghan Cooney, Advancement Office (mcooney2@washcoll.edu), and Kevin Brien, Department of Philosophy and Religion (kbrien2@washcoll.edu) are co-advisors.

Dr. Peter Weigel (pweigel2@washcoll.edu) acted as faculty advisor from 2002 until 2008 and helped start the annual student journal, Apeiron.

The Club works in connection with Apeiron. Paper copies are in the alcoves of the Philosophy Department offices. Submissions are welcome anytime and should be sent to apeironjournal@gmail.com

Since its founding in 2002, several contributors have had their work republished in a larger venue, including Bill Spencer ‘06, Jennifer Sutphin ‘04, Tim Huston ‘07 (posthumously, in 2005), and Ben Kozlowski ‘08. All of them published in Dialogue, the journal of the Phi Sigma Tau International Philosophy Honor Society.
