Class of 1999
Class Notes
Winter 2009
Mike Buccino has joined the Washington College staff as a development officer. He and his wife of two years, Shannon, relocated to Maryland after years of teaching music and organizing musical ensembles for private events in Colorado. Before that, Mike worked for two U.S. Senators and Maryland State Delegate Peter Franchot. "I'm really excited about the opportunity to connect with old friends, to reacquaint myself with Chestertown and to give back to the Washington College community.'
Brian Erickson is living in Thailand with his wife, Nid, and his son, August Ronnakorn. Recently, Brian became the owner, operator and chef of his own small restaurant in Koh Tao. Nid's Kitchen, named after his wife, serves Thai and western food. "I do the western cooking and either my wife or the other chef does the Thai. The food's really good, and we get a lot of repeat business, which can be tough in a touristy area."
Elizabeth Garrott and Jason Schmidt '99 are living in Towson, MD, with Potato the Wonderdog. They both teach high school English and support their schools' drama programs. Liz teaches at Dulaney High School, and Jason teaches at Edgewood High School. Future plans include summer travel to teach Shakespeare to college-bound students in China or perhaps surprising international restaurateur Brian Erickson '99 in Koh Tao, Thailand...or maybe both...or maybe more. This past summer Liz and Jason made two pilgrimages back to Chestertown to raise a glass or two at the last night at Andy's and to perform in the Prince Theatre's 10 Minute Play Festival, under the care and tutelage of Professors Dale Daigle and Polly Sommerfeld.
Michael Moore is a teacher's assistant at Church Hill Elementary School, where he works with children who have special needs.
Sarah Jarrell-Contos is now a critical care nurse. She looks forward to receiving her certification in 2010, and says she plans to start a family soon.
