Chester River Field Research Center
Internships
The Chester River Field Research Center offers several internships throughout the year. Spring interns are assigned to the Foreman’s Branch Bird Observatory for an introduction to bird banding. Early and chilly mornings are rewarded with the chance to see many birds up close. Students learn the scientific importance of bird banding, data collection, bird identification and basic bird handling techniques.
In the summer, our interns work in the CRFRC restored grasslands. These students learn the basics of avian field work and contribute to our long term studies of Grasshopper Sparrows and Dickcissels. Tasks include mapping territories of singing males, nest searching, bird banding and more. These internships are a great introduction to field work, data collection, and real world hands on science. A CRFRC internship is a fantastic opportunity to get experience before applying for full time work or graduate study.
