After School Activities

In the fall of 2012, the GIS Lab teamed up with the third grade class at Henry Highland Garnett Elementary School to teach them some basic GIS programs.

GIS Student Intern Tara Barber and and staff member Samantha Bulkilvish visited the third graders at H.H. Garnett once a week for several weeks. During their time with the students, they taught them how to use the free software programs Google SketchUp and Google Earth. In addition, they provided information on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) programs.

The GIS Lab strongly values youth education and as such, is making headway into providing effective and affordable instruction in geospatial technology to students of all ages. This was another way for the lab to extend our knowledge and technology to young students.
