Campus Plaque Project

In order to document the generosity of donors to Washington College, interns at the GIS Lab worked together to create a searchable database and map of all the plaques found on campus.

In order to make it easier for donors to find the location of their plaques, GIS interns Emily Scherer ‘14 and Michael Wieder ‘14 created a database of plaques that makes it easy to search by surname or by building. The database also includes maps of each building on campus that shows the location of each plaque in that building. In addition, the database contains photographs of each individual plaque. The database is made available through the Alumni Relations office for visiting donors.

A search for the surname Anderson brings up twelve plaques with their locations, donors, and a map of their location in the building.A search for the surname Anderson brings up twelve plaques with their locations, donors, and a map of their location in the building.

If a donor was looking for Charles Anderson's plaque in the Custom House, they could take the Plaque ID, Custom_16, and click the map button. Plaque Custom_16 is located in the back of the first floor hallway. If a donor was looking for Charles Anderson's plaque in the Custom House, they could take the Plaque ID, Custom_16, and click the map button.
