Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention’s Domestic Violence Initiative
Controlling and abating the amount of domestic violence cases in the State of Maryland is one of the top priorities in Governor Martin O’Malley’s to-do list. Since receiving this project in early spring we have been tediously converting every hand-written domestic violence report from every police agency in the state of Maryland for the years 2010 and 2011 into digital records. We aim to have the conversions done by mid-August, and will continue the project by geocoding all locations of the given incidents so that we can eventually create a map to visually display where the incidents are occurring the most. The finished product will only be one of the many ways Washington College has assisted the Governor’s office of Crime Control and Prevention in creating tactics, techniques and procedures for preventing crime.
