Learn how to talk like a Washington College student.

  • WAC

    Shorthand for Washington College. Not to be confused with CAC, shorthand for the Casey Academic Center.

  • Goose Nation

    Another name for WAC. It’s a reference not only to our campus location in the Atlantic Flyway, but also to our mascot,  Do you tweet? Add #goosenation to your campus-related tweets!

  • Gus the Goose

    Beloved mascot of Washington College. (“Honk, Honk.”)

  • Shoremen/Shorewomen

    Team names for Washington College athletes. For us, it’s all about our location! Geese love it here.

  • 1782

    The year that Washington College was founded by the Rev. William Smith, George Washington, and other revolutionary thinkers.

  • C-town or Ctown

    Short for Chestertown, your college town.

  • PS

    Public Safety. Their office is located on the lower level of Wicomico, but you’ll see them conducting foot and vehicle patrols of the entire campus.

  • SEB

    Student Events Board. This student group plans and hosts regular student activities and all-campus events.

  • WACky Wednesday

    Every Wednesday, the Student Events Board hosts a campus-wide competition to see who can best represent the school in their Washington College swag.

  • SGA

    Student Government Association. In existence since 1919, the SGA provides financial support to clubs and organizations, proves a voice to the students and builds strong community service and outreach programs.

  • Bill Smith/Smith

    William Smith Hall. Some classes are held here, and there are a number of faculty offices. This is also where the HelpDesk is located (this is important).

  • Cater Walk

    Main brick pathway on campus. Named for Douglass Cater, twenty-third president of Washington College.

  • I-House

    International House, one of the Hill Dorms, where international students, modern language majors and international studies majors can apply to live.

  • Java George

    The place to get coffee on campus! Meet up with a friend or a professor before or after class.

  • JFC

    Johnson Fitness Center, the place to work out on campus.

  • Lit House/LitHouse

    The Rose O’Neill Literary House, a white Victorian home on the edge of campus, open to all students. You might meet a famous author here, listen to a poetry or book reading, or have a cup of hot cocoa with friends.

  • Litrenta

    Litrenta Lecture Hall, located in the John S. Toll Science Center Building. You might have a general science class here, see a movie, or a special guest lecture.

  • Martha’s Kitchen

    An alternative to the main campus dining hall, serving a variety of grilled foods, salads, and made-to-order meals.

  • Middle

    One of the Hill Dorms, Middle Hall offers specialty housing on campus for students interested in creative writing, art, theatre and music.

  • MPC

    Multimedia Production Center. You can borrow DSL cameras, video cameras, or use their equipment to edit photos, videos and create presentations for class.

  • Sassy

    Sassafras residence hall, built in 2008.

  • The CAC

    Casey Academic Center. Admissions, Student Affairs, and some student mailboxes are located here.

  • The Egg

    A performance/activity/student space in the Hodson Hall Student Center. You might hear a lecture, see a movie or be hypnotized here.

  • The Green

    The big, open lawn on campus, between the Hill Dorms and the John Toll Science Center Complex.

  • The Hill Dorms

    Name for three of our oldest buildings on campus, now specialty housing. See Middle, I-House, and West. More on the buildings here.

  • The Quad

    The area between the three fraternity house buildings - Cecil, Dorchester, and Talbot.

  • West

    West Hall, one of the Hill Dorms, offers specialty housing on campus for students interested in math and science.

  • Western Shore

    A group name for the residence halls located around the perimeter of the baseball park. The Western Shore is made up of suite-style housing for juniors and seniors. 

  • Fountain Park

    The center of downtown Chestertown - a large fountain stands in the middle. Where Art in the Park, Taste of the Town, Music in the Park, and weekly Farmers’ Market is held.

  • Proc’s

    Procolino’s pizza, a popular college hangout. Located half a mile from campus. Ask for the College Special.
