    Alumni, friends and family gathered in the McLain Atrium to celebrate the retirement of Dr. James Siemen, Professor of Psychology for over 30 years. Guests enjoyed Lays potato chips and glass bottles of Coke; two of Dr. Siemen’s favorite things.

    The class of 1954 gathered to dedicate the elm tree, planted beside the outdoor classroom in honor of the Elm Tree Fund, an endowment to help with students’ short-term financial needs and emergencies.

    The ’90s Crab Feast on the Chester hosted by the Classes of 1994 & 1999 celebrated the 15th and 20th reunion classes with crabs, beer, and 90s tunes.

    Alumni gathered on the deck of the Rose O’Neill Literary House to sample wines made by local Crow Farm Vineyard with Doug Carter ’12. In the solarium, Laura Pritchett Oliver ’75 reads from her personal work, The Story Within, and discusses writing in a personal context.

    Whose line IS it anyway? Dramalumni went head-to-head in a battle of wits, comedy and improvisation playing classic acting games featured on the popular show Whose Line Is It Anyway? The crowd enjoyed the side-splitting action packed comedy, as actors jumped, danced, cried and sang. The competition was fierce, and in the end judges Dale Daigle, Tim Maloney and Jason Rubin declared everyone a winner!

    Alumni, faculty, and families gathered on the Hodson Green for picnic fare on Saturday, May 31st.  Chester River Runoff was on hand to provide the best bluegrass entertainment for a sunny afternoon!

    Alumni, parents and students gathered to celebrate Senior Day and a great win over Gettysburg (all wins are great wins). Brian Corrigan ’83, Myrt Gaines ’78 and John Warrington ’85 hosted the annual Fish Fry to send the seniors off in style.

    Despite the threat of raging snowstorms, Baltimore alumni were determined to brave the elements to celebrate friendship and WC’s founding patron, George Washington. On February 12, a smaller but mighty crowd gathered at Blue Hill Tavern to Toast the annual “Huzzah!”

    Alumni in Annapolis gathered on February 20th on the (enclosed) rooftop of Metropolitan Kitchen & Lounge to reminisce and toast George Washington. Alumni Board chair Valarie Sheppard ‘86 and Recent Alumni and Student Involvement Committee chair Arian Ravanbakhsh ‘89 led the speech and “Huzzah’s.”

    On Tuesday, February 18 an enthusiastic crowd of alumni gathered at Pub & Kitchen to connect with friends and raise a glass to George Washington. There was a three way tie for the class with the most attendees, so in true Philly form, guests competed in a WC-themed round of “Quizzo.” The champions in the class of 2008 earned themselves an extra drink to celebrate.

    Alumni in Chicago gathered on Sunday, February 23 to celebrate an alumni tradition: sharing in a toast to George Washington in honor of his birthday.

    Alumni in the Washington, DC chapter gathered on December 12 at Vinoteca to enjoy a drink with friends and celebrate the season. The food was delicious (we recommend the stuffed mushrooms!) and the company couldn’t be beat.

    Annapolis alumni had the entire upstairs of Phillip’s to themselves for their Holiday Party on December 5 - and it was a good thing, too, as a record 78 people stopped by! Despite the competition with Midnight Madness for parking, guests found their way inside to enjoy a drink and delicious appetizers with friends.

    Tis the season, hon! A record-breaking 125 alumni packed Cafe Hon in Hampden for a festive holiday celebration. Guests enjoyed a drink and lite fair with friends, and after the party, some traveled down to 34th street to see the famous light display.

    As an installment in the Center for Environment and Society’s “What Can I Do With My Environmental Studies Degree,” WC alumna Jenn Vervier ’90 gave a lecture on sustainability and her position as Director of Strategic Development and Sustainability with New Belgium Brewing Company.

    Sponsors included the Business Management Department and the J.C. Jones Program in American Business Leadership.

    Besides the introduction of WC’s new Director of Waterfront Activities and head sailing coach, the fall semester brought about the acquisition of a new fleet, complete with colorful, new logo-branded sails.  To honor those whose contributions made this possible, the new vessels were blessed with water from the Chester River.

    The Annapolis Alumni Chapter celebrated the holiday season at Fado Irish Pub on December 6, 2012. Members enjoyed appetizers, relaxed with great conversations, and donated tons of toys for local charity “We Care and Friends.” Co-chair Sarah (White) Slenker ‘94 announced the party was her last in the volunteer role, and fellow Co-chair Kristen (Van Eron) O’Neil ‘01 presented her with a gift of thanks.

    Members of the Philadelphia Alumni Chapter met at Square Peg restaurant on December 7, 2012 to celebrate the Holidays in WC style! The cozy atmosphere, delicious appetizers, specialty Martha’s Revenge cocktails, board games in the booths, overflowing box of donated toys for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and record attendance helped make this seasonal celebration especiallyfabulous.

    In honor of Professor Garry Clarke’s  retirement, alumni and students gathered for to celebrate his contributions to the Washington College community with a musical tribute, which concluded with the announcement of a new endowment in his name and a portrait gift from the Class of 2012. During his tenure, Professor Clarke served as Professor of Music from 1968-2012, and as Acting President and Dean of the College.

    As part of the Goldstein Program in Public Affairs, Dan Holler ‘05 spoke in the Alumni House about getting a job as Communications Director for the Heritage Foundation, a prominent DC think tank. working in professional politics or advocacy. Afterwards, he gave a public lecture on the Republican presidential primaries in Hynson Lounge entitled “Breaking all the Rules: The GOP Primary.”

    The first ever Ohio Toast to George went off with out a hitch on President’s day weekend! We ate, we drank, and we toasted George — huzzah!. We represented over 30 years of WC history. We hope to increase our numbers next year — and the next….
