Alumni Directory Project

Here are some helpful answers to some of the most frequently asked questions regarding the WC Alumni Today directory.

Why is WC producing an alumni directory?

A high-quality, professional directory will enable alumni to find and keep in touch with friends and classmates. And because your name and biographical information will be listed along with those of other alumni, it will be easy for them to contact you. Additionally, the project will assist the alumni office in keeping the most accurate and up-to-date records possible on all alumni, so we can let you know what’s happening at the school.

Why was the return address on the postcard a Virginia address?

We have partnered with Harris Connect, an industry leader for nearly 50 years who has produced over 4,000 directories for colleges, universities, high schools, and membership associations. All communications regarding this project have been previewed and approved by the College.  Harris Connect is producing the Washington College Alumni Today directory at no cost to us.

What will the directory look like?

The directory will contain multiple sections, including a full color section in which alumni may submit current photos. It will also contain listings sorted by class year, geographical location, and alphabetically.

When can I expect to hear from Harris Connect?

Over the next several weeks, you may receive postcards, emails or phone calls from Harris Connect. We would appreciate your cooperation in updating your contact information. Harris Connect makes calls Monday through Friday, beginning at 8:00 a.m. and continuing until about 9:00 p.m., in all time zones. They may try to contact you at work during the day, or in the evening. If you are contacted at a time that is inconvenient for you, simply let the representative know. S/He will give you the Harris Connect toll-free number or will arrange to call you later.

What about my privacy?

You may choose to list as little or as much information about yourself as you like in the directory, or you may choose not to participate at all. Our agreement with Harris Connect provides that your information will not be shared or sold to outside parties. Similarly, directories will only be offered for purchase to Washington College alumni.

Who should I contact if I have questions regarding the accuracy of my listing in the book?

You should contact Harris Connect directly, since they are currently compiling the information. They have dedicated a toll-free number specifically for our alumni. You can use this number to verify or change your listing or to place an order. That number is 1-800-326-2043.

What if I don’t want to be listed in the book? What if I don’t want certain pieces of information listed?

Harris Connect can still update your information for us, but will honor your specific request to exclude all or parts of your biographical data from the publication.

If my name is listed in the directory, am I obligated to purchase a copy?

Although everyone will be offered the option to purchase a directory during the call, there is no obligation to buy. If you are not interested in purchasing a book, please inform the representative and the call will be concluded.

Are there different versions of the directory?

The directory will be available in a Hardbound edition and a Softbound edition. The difference between the two is the cover and the binding, but the content is the same. There is also a CD-ROM version of the directory, or a combination of the CD and either the hardbound or softbound editions. Additionally, there is a Reunion CD, which contains alumni of your class and the surrounding 4 class years.

If I reserve a copy, when can I expect to receive it?

Reservations are taken in advance ONLY and the publication is scheduled to reach you by mid-late August. 

Will this directory be available online?

Unfortunately, this project seeks only to produce a print directory. We do, however, realize the importance of an online directory and are working to research solutions for the future. At this time, a print edition was the most cost and time effective choice for the College. Ultimately, the information we collect in this project could help produce a more up-to-date online directory in the future.

What happens if I don’t order a directory now, but change my mind later?

We have arranged to print as many books as are ordered before we go to press. So, if you do change your mind prior to publication, you can call the Harris Connect toll free number for Washington College: 1-800-326-2043.

What forms of payment will be accepted for the purchase of a directory?

The directory may be paid for by major credit card or check. Payment(s) may be made by credit card at the time of order or by check upon receipt of the invoice(s). Installment payment plans are also available, allowing you to pay a portion now and the rest later. The Reunion CD must be paid in full by credit card. On most major credit card statements, “HC” will appear with the name of Washington College.

What if I decide I want to cancel the order I have placed?

Orders for the directory may be canceled by calling the Harris Connect Customer Service Department at 1-800-877-6554. Be sure to provide the account number when canceling.
