Reflections & Undercurrents
“In Reflections & Undercurrents: Ernest Roth & Printmaking in Venice, 1900–1940, curator Eric Denker considers the life and work of Roth and his contemporaries, exploring connections among the artists through a study of their prints (several of which they made together and circulated among each other), letters, and diaries. Denker’s pioneering research unearths many unpublished documents, shedding light on the artistic and personal relationships of etchers working in Venice in the wake of Whistler and his circle. By reconstructing the social world of Roth and his contemporaries, Denker corrects and deepens our understanding of the etchers working in ‘La Serenissima.’”
Special Thanks to Eric Denker and the Trout Gallery at Dickinson College for making this Exhibition Possible.
